Over the weekend of August 20th 2011, the Connecticut Yankees Rugby Team will be competing in The Real Yards (TRY) challenge. The team will be running the equivalent distance of Boston to New York – that’s 216 miles, non-stop! – in an effort to promote the sport of rugby to the youth of the Fairfield County community of Connecticut

As rugby is a relatively unknown sport in our area, the current youth rugby programs in Fairfield and Greenwich are not well funded, meaning training equipment is sub-standard and coaches are not up-to-speed with the current safety standards. This needs to change – and fast – so our goal is to raise at least $5000 which will go towards investing in proper safety equipment for the Fairfield Youth program, starting a College Scholarship for a High School senior, and sponsoring a training camp for the youth team coaches already involved.
